About the role

Opportunity Overview

Handshake is recruiting medical imaging specialists with experience in image analysis and visualization using 3D Slicer to contribute to an AI research project. In this project, you’ll apply your expertise to help improve how AI understands real-world professional tasks within your domain, such as medical image segmentation, volume rendering, image registration, and quantitative imaging analysis. This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside your current role.

What You’ll Do

  • Use your medical imaging experience to create tasks that today’s top AI models can’t solve based on real workflows, such as loading and navigating DICOM data, segmenting anatomical structures, registering image volumes, building 3D models from scans, measuring and quantifying regions of interest, and Python scripting and extension use within 3D Slicer
  • Review and evaluate AI-generated responses
  • Provide clear, structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance
  • Work remotely and complete tasks at your own pace, with no set schedule or minimum hour requirement

Qualifications

  • Degree : Completed Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, such as Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Radiologic Technology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline
  • Tool experience : At least 2 years of work experience using 3D Slicer

Additional qualifications (not required, but strengthen your application)

  • Experience across multiple imaging or analysis tools and workflows, such as ITK-SNAP, OsiriX/Horos, MITK, VTK, or Python libraries for medical imaging (SimpleITK, MONAI, pydicom), or familiarity with DICOM and NIfTI formats
  • Professional experience in a hospital, research lab, medical device company, or imaging core facility, or a record of published research or imaging projects

Required for all applicants

  • Must have US work authorization
  • Strong written communication and attention to detail
  • Ability to explain complex medical imaging concepts clearly
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment

Where you can work

This role is 100% remote, for applicants located in United States.
