Who can join
- A Google account (you sign in with Google), your resume, your LinkedIn profile and a phone number. Onboarding works on a computer (Chrome recommended) or a phone.
- A laptop or desktop with a working webcam for the Zara AI interview. Phones and tablets cause technical issues, and an interview with the camera disabled is marked Failed.
- Living where Alignerr operates. For legal, regulatory and security reasons access is limited in some countries, and people there see a 'Location Denied' message and cannot onboard. Alignerr does not publish the list.
- Once you are matched to a project: a driver's license, state ID, work permit or permanent residence card from an accepted country, photographed live through Persona, plus a recent selfie. Photos of photos are rejected.
- Real expertise. Alignerr describes its community as subject matter experts, with backgrounds such as master's degrees and PhDs, specialized industry experience or language expertise.
- A payout account with the one provider Alignerr enables in your identity-verification country, Stripe or PayPal. You cannot choose between them.

Sign in with Google and build your profile
Sign up at app.alignerr.com with your Google account and upload your resume. Your profile is filled in from the resume and you can edit it. Have your LinkedIn profile and phone number ready.

Apply to roles that match your expertise
The separate Assessments tab has been removed, so apply for the jobs you want first. Only some roles require an assessment, which you start with the Continue button, and some also ask for a voice sample. 'Completed' means nothing more is needed; 'Applied' means steps may still be pending.

Do the Zara AI interview if it appears
If a Zara interview shows on your dashboard it is required. It is a live dialogue with Alignerr's AI interviewer, with questions unique to you; coding can include live exercises and language interviews are usually a conversation. Some people are also invited to a human interview to check native language skills. If you pass, you move to onboarding automatically.

Wait to be matched to a project
Projects are assigned based on availability and your interview performance. When a project is ready you get a Discord notification with the project details and pay rate, and you decide whether to accept it under 'Go to Projects' in the dashboard.

Verify your identity with Persona
Alignerr asks for Persona verification only when you are matched with a project or accept a job application: a live photo of your ID plus a selfie. If you submitted the wrong ID, contact support to reset verification.

Accept the contract
Review and accept your contract from the onboarding checklist on the Alignerr home page, or under Settings, then Documents. US contractors paid through Deel fill in a W-9 during contract signing.

Connect your payout account
Payment setup opens only once you are officially assigned to a project. Connect Stripe (email, phone code, bank details and currency) or PayPal, whichever your country uses. Once connected, you cannot switch to a different Stripe account.

Passing moves you to onboarding automatically, and Alignerr gives no individual results, feedback or timelines.
Format
AI video interview on a laptop or desktop with the camera on and the browser in full screen throughout. Questions are unique to each person, so Alignerr publishes no question list or length; coding interviews can include live exercises. Retakes are granted only after technical problems in the first session, and you cannot request extra interviews.
How to prepare
- Use a laptop or desktop, test your camera and microphone, and make sure your connection is stable: Alignerr says mobile devices are not supported.
- Choose a quiet room with a neutral background and soft, even light on your face, and use headphones or a noise-cancelling microphone. Alignerr warns that background noise may be read as part of your answer.
- Do not talk over Zara: Alignerr says overlapping speech causes pauses that can affect your score. Speak at a steady pace and pause briefly after each answer.
- Work alone. AI tools, extra monitors and anyone helping you on camera are prohibited.
- Keep your resume specific to your real specialty: Alignerr picks people for human interviews based on the experience they shared at registration.
- If an NDA or personal limit stops you discussing past work, ask Zara to skip that question.
Why people get rejected
- Camera off or leaving full-screen mode: a disabled camera is marked Failed.
- Using outside help, an AI tool or a second monitor.
- Technical problems from taking the interview on a phone or tablet.
- Answers that do not follow a project's written guidelines. Some Trustpilot reviewers say answers that did follow them were still rejected and that support would not review assessments.
- Not actually a rejection: passing does not guarantee a project, and in Reddit reports reviewed by Annotation Academy one worker cleared screening but was never added to a project.
- Living in a country where Alignerr does not operate, which stops onboarding at a 'Location Denied' message.
Alignerr publishes no timeline. Its onboarding guide says the time it takes can vary, its interview FAQ says individual timelines will not be given, and it contacts you by email and adds you to a Discord channel when a new project is ready.

On per-task projects you are paid only for tasks that pass quality review and are accepted; completed tasks that are not accepted are not paid. Changing your payout method means redoing Persona verification.
Tips to get accepted
- Find out the pay rate before you start: rates are shown only after you are selected, usually on the project page or in its Discord channel, and a few projects in their evaluation phase are unpaid. If the rate is unclear, ask the project coordinator and wait.
- On per-task projects, see your first tasks accepted before doing many more. Annotation Academy's review of Reddit reports found that work that is never reviewed is never paid.
- Expect Stripe to hold your first payment for 7 days; Alignerr support cannot shorten it.
- Set up Discord early and keep notifications on: project alerts, with details and pay rate, arrive there.
- Expect gaps. Alignerr says its work comes in waves, with periods of waiting followed by intense activity, while it waits on customers for new datasets.
- Verify with an ID from the country you will be paid in: payout options follow your identity-verification country, and adding another country needs re-verification with that country's documents.
What isn't public
- Alignerr does not publish the Zara interview's length, how it is scored, a pass mark or an acceptance rate, and it gives no individual results or feedback.
- It does not publish which countries it operates in, or which countries' ID documents Persona accepts.
- There is no published timeline from application to first paid task.
- Which roles require an assessment, a voice sample or an AI interview is only shown once you apply.
- Pay rates are shown only after you are selected for a project, and Alignerr does not say how many projects have an unpaid evaluation phase or how long it lasts.
- Its help center says nothing about payout fees, minimum payouts or currency conversion.
