Microtask crowd · Creator data marketplace
Wirestock
Wirestock is a creator-powered multimodal data platform (700,000+ contributors) that turned from stock-photo distribution into a supplier of licensed training data for AI labs, backed by a $23M Series A in May 2026 led by Nava Ventures. Creators join through its creator pools (an unpaid test task, then project invitations) and Paid Projects briefs, paid per approved asset, and earn a 50% commission each time their content is licensed. Since its Terms of 20 January 2026, every upload is included in its AI dataset licensing, and since early 2026 it no longer sends content to stock agencies.
Third-party reports
Is Wirestock legit?
Researched October 2026 · 17 sourcesYes. Wirestock, Inc. is a real, venture-backed San Francisco company that pays creators through PayPal or Payoneer for approved project work and for licenses of their content. Work is irregular and review-heavy: the test task is unpaid, joining the creator pool does not guarantee projects, and recent reviewers report rejected sets, removal from projects and late payments. It pays Variable royalties (third-party reports).
Joined through its own application (it publishes no job postings)
Mikayel Khachatryan (CEO) and three co-founders started Wirestock to sell creators' photos through stock sites. It began selling AI training data in 2023 and stopped sending new uploads to stock marketplaces on January 20, 2026. In May 2026 it raised a $23 million Series A led by Nava Ventures, and it says it has over 700,000 creators, a $40 million revenue run rate and six of the largest AI model makers as customers.
Project work pays a set rate for each approved asset, and approved content earns a 50% commission each time a buyer licenses it. Payouts go monthly by PayPal (minimum $30) or Payoneer (minimum $50), and smaller balances roll over. The terms let Wirestock keep unpaid earnings if it closes an account for a breach.
Trustpilot 3.3/5 (391 reviews). Read October 2026.
Global (payouts via PayPal or Payoneer)
No Wirestock-specific impersonation scams turned up. The real site is wirestock.io and support writes from support@wirestock.io; wirestock.com is a domain for sale, not the company. Wirestock charges no fee to join, so anyone asking you to pay to get projects, especially on WhatsApp or Telegram, is not Wirestock.
What people praise
- Several project contributors on Trustpilot say they were paid on time, and one says payment has been fair and reliable over four to five years.
- Wirestock answers about a third of negative Trustpilot reviews, typically within a week.
- Joining is free: Wirestock ended its paid Premium plans in April 2026 and refunded the unused part of current subscriptions.
What people complain about
- Every new upload goes into AI dataset licensing with no opt-out, and the license survives if you delete your account.
- Recent 1-star reviewers describe sets rejected without clear reasons, briefs that change mid-project, slow support and removal from projects without explanation.
- Some contributors call the pay low, one putting it at about half the market rate and saying only about half of submitted sets get approved.
- One contributor said 14 of 299 approved sets went unpaid for months; Wirestock replied that it had since sent the payment.
What has gone wrong
- January 2026. Wirestock stopped sending new uploads to stock marketplaces on January 20, 2026, and in April announced it would retire portfolios, remove never-approved content and move approved work into paid-per-sale projects. One contributor found about 5,000 images and his earnings gone; Wirestock replied that it had emailed users about the change.
- August 2026. Between August 5 and 10, 2026, more than a dozen contributors posted 1-star Trustpilot reviews describing sets rejected after brief changes, removal from projects, a blocked team account with a month of pay outstanding, and sales counts that dropped to zero.
Best for: Photographers, videographers, illustrators and designers who follow detailed briefs well, want occasional paid AI-data projects, and are happy for their approved work to be licensed for AI training. Not for: Anyone who needs steady income, wants to keep their work out of AI training, or cannot receive money through PayPal or Payoneer.
Honest catches
- Pay here is third-party reports, not measured live from a job feed, so treat it as a benchmark rather than a guaranteed rate.

What Wirestock pays
Third-party reports · as of 2026-07-25Researched rate card, third-party reports, as of 2026-07-25
Wirestock does not publish a typical per-asset or per-hour earning figure. Platform-stated: Fixed Payment projects pay a set rate per approved asset (for example, 15 approved of 20 submitted earns 15 times the rate), and Commission Based projects pay 50% of each license. Payouts go out monthly for the previous month via PayPal ($30 minimum) or Payoneer ($50 minimum under the Terms). The old 15% and 30% stock-agency splits ended with its stock distribution in early 2026. Third-party worker reviews report earnings ranging from small to modest for most contributors, so payLow and payHigh are left null.

How to get started on Wirestock
Researched October 2026Sign up at wirestock.io as a creator, fill in your profile (skills, specialties, equipment, experience) and connect PayPal or Payoneer plus your tax details in Account Settings, then either apply to a creator pool and pass an unpaid test task to get matched to Fixed Payment projects (paid per approved asset) or submit work to Commission Based projects (50% of each license); balances are paid out monthly.
Who can join
- Be at least 18 years old (one of the representations you make under Wirestock's Terms of Service).
- Create original work and hold the rights to license it. Wirestock's FAQ says it is open to 'anyone who creates quality photos, illustrations, or videos and has the rights to license what they upload'.
- Releases where needed: if your work includes recognizable people or private property, Wirestock says you may need a separate model or property release for each person or location.
- A PayPal or Payoneer account. These are the only two payout methods, and the Terms say you may not share your PayPal (or other payment service) account with another Wirestock contributor.
- One account per person: the Terms forbid submitting identical or substantially similar content to more than one account.
- No professional job title is required to join a creator pool. Asked whether you need professional experience, Wirestock answers 'Not necessarily': it looks at the quality of your work, how well you follow instructions and whether your submission meets the project requirements.
- Each pool sets its own skill bar. The photography pool, for example, asks for confident full manual camera operation, a steady camera position across shooting sequences, controlled lighting, attention to subtle visual detail, and professional file organization and delivery.
- Original content only: the Submission Guidelines say uploading content downloaded from free sites such as Unsplash, Freepik or Pexels may lead to permanent termination of your account.
Step by step
- 1
Create a creator account
On the sign-up page choose 'Join as Creator' ('I am a creator, looking for paid projects'), then 'Continue with Google' or 'Continue with Email'.
- 2
Complete your profile
Your profile is now the main way Wirestock matches you to paid project invitations. Fill in the fields for skills, content specialties, equipment and experience: Wirestock says completing them directly affects the quality and relevance of the invitations you receive.
- 3
Add payout and tax details in Account Settings
Wirestock pays through PayPal or Payoneer, and its FAQ says you need to complete your payment and tax details in Account Settings to receive payouts. Payouts are processed when your balance reaches the minimum payout threshold.
- 4
Apply to a creator pool: Review the Role
Pick a Freelance Jobs pool (Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography or 2D Game Art), read its requirements and technical guidelines (Wirestock says your submission must follow them closely), and click Apply.
- 5
Complete a test task, then wait for review
Submit a sample based on the brief. It is unpaid and lets Wirestock see how you work and whether you can follow directions. Review usually takes up to 2 days, sometimes longer when many submissions come in. If it is not approved, you are welcome to apply again; another project type may suit your style better.
- 6
Join the Creator Pool
If approved, you join the pool for that project type and Wirestock contacts you when a matching project comes up. Joining does not guarantee immediate work, and you can decide whether to accept a project under the terms it offers.
- 7
Submit to a Paid Projects brief (Fixed Payment)
Go to Paid Projects in your dashboard, open a brief, review its requirements, then submit the requested assets and any releases. Each submission is reviewed and you are paid for each approved asset. The system may show several projects, but Wirestock strongly discourages working on more than one paid project at a time.
- 8
Optionally, add work to Commission Based projects
Approved content sits in ongoing project listings organized by content type, which Wirestock offers to AI labs, and you earn 50% commission each time one of your assets is licensed. New work goes in through the standard paid projects workflow, and you can do this alongside Fixed Payment projects.
- 9
Track applications and earnings in the dashboard
The logged-in dashboard's sidebar has Profile, Dashboard, Projects, Applications and Settings. The Dashboard view shows your balance, total earnings, earnings over time and payouts, with General, Stock, Challenges and Referral tabs.
- 10
Creator pool Test Task
To join a Fixed Payment creator pool (Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography or 2D Game Art), you submit an unpaid test task based on the pool's guidelines, which Wirestock uses to evaluate your style, technical accuracy and how you work with a brief. Its team reviews each submission for quality, consistency and how well you followed the brief. If approved you join the pool and are contacted when a matching project becomes available; joining does not guarantee immediate work.
Format
An unpaid sample submission made to a brief and its technical guidelines, reviewed by Wirestock's team ('every submission is carefully reviewed with industry evaluation standards'). Timing varies with the project and the number of submissions. If your submission is not approved, you can go back to the guidelines and apply again.
How to prepare
- Read the role's requirements and technical guidelines before you start: Wirestock says your submission must follow them closely.
- Meet the specs in Wirestock's Submission Guidelines: photos at least 3000 pixels on the longest side and at least 6 megapixels, JPEG only, sharp focus, correct exposure and color, no noise or compression artifacts; video at 1080p or higher (4K preferred), MP4, MOV or AVI, at least 5 seconds long.
- For the photography pool, show what Wirestock lists as wanted: full manual camera operation, a steady camera position across a sequence, controlled lighting, and professional file organization and delivery.
- Submit only original work you own, with model or property releases for recognizable people or private property, and label AI-generated content as AI-generated (all per the Submission Guidelines).
- Show consistency: Wirestock reviews each submission for quality, consistency and how well you followed the brief.
Why people get rejected
- Not following the brief or technical guidelines closely (Wirestock reviews how well you followed the brief).
- Technical flaws named in the Submission Guidelines: grain or noise, soft focus, poor exposure, over-editing or heavy filters, compression artifacts, or shaky and stuttering video.
- Files below spec under the Submission Guidelines, for example photos under 3000 pixels on the longest side or not in JPEG format.
- Content that is not original (taken from free stock sites), infringes trademarks or copyright, or lacks needed releases (Submission Guidelines).
- For AI-generated work (Submission Guidelines): many near-identical images from one prompt, distorted hands or eyes, or images of celebrities, brands or copyrighted characters.
Wirestock publishes no overall time from sign-up to first earnings. For Fixed Payment work, test-task review usually takes up to 2 days, but joining a creator pool means you are matched to projects as they become available, not that work starts right away. On a project you earn for each approved submission. Wirestock's Terms add that payouts go out monthly for the previous month once you pass the payout minimum, so at the earliest your first cash arrives in the monthly payout after your first approved work, and later if your balance is still under the minimum. Commission Based income depends entirely on whether, and how often, buyers license your content.
Two pay models, per Wirestock's July 2026 payments post. Fixed Payment: you earn for each approved submission on a project (for example, 20 photos submitted and 15 approved earns 15 times the rate per asset). Commission Based: you earn 50% commission each time one of your assets is licensed. Payouts go out monthly for the previous month, automatically, through PayPal or Payoneer only, once your payment and tax details are complete in Account Settings. The FAQ gives a $30 minimum payout; the Terms of Service (effective 20 January 2026) set $30 for PayPal and $50 for Payoneer, and a smaller balance rolls over to the next month. Wirestock's FAQ also lists a referral program: 10% of a referred creator's earnings, up to $25 per referred creator.
Tips to get accepted
- Only upload work you are comfortable having licensed for AI training. Under the Terms effective 20 January 2026, every item you submit automatically joins the Dataset Deals Program, where Wirestock licenses sets of content to third parties, and the Terms say there is no option to opt out.
- Fill in every new profile field (skills, content specialties, equipment, experience). Wirestock says this directly shapes which Fixed Payment project invitations you receive.
- Connect PayPal or Payoneer and complete your tax details in Account Settings before your first approval: Wirestock's FAQ says you need both to receive payouts.
- Work one paid project at a time. The system may show several open projects, but Wirestock strongly discourages working on multiple paid projects at once.
- Expect the stock-agency model to be gone. Wirestock stopped distributing content to third-party stock marketplaces in early 2026 and retired the Portfolio, Marketplace, Challenges and Premium plans; previously approved content moved into Paid per sale (Commission Based) projects, and unapproved content was removed.
- Log in at least once a year: the Terms let Wirestock terminate an account that has not accessed the service for 12 consecutive months.
What isn't public
- Wirestock does not publish its per-asset rates for Fixed Payment projects, an acceptance rate for creator pools, or how long approved pool members typically wait for a first project.
- Wirestock's own pages disagree on opting out of AI dataset licensing: the Terms of Service (effective 20 January 2026) say every submission joins the Dataset Deals Program with no option to opt out, while the FAQ says you can manage participation, 'including opting out, when available', in account settings. This guide follows the Terms.
- The payout minimum differs by page: the FAQ says $30, while the Terms set $30 for PayPal and $50 for Payoneer.
- The July 2026 payments post says Fixed Payment work is 'paid instantly' once approved, but the FAQ and Terms describe automatic monthly payouts for the previous month. Wirestock does not reconcile the two; we read 'instantly' as earnings credited to your balance.
- The Terms of Service (effective 20 January 2026) still describe stock-marketplace royalties (85% to you), Instant Pay, prints (70% to you), Challenges and Premium plans, which Wirestock's April 2026 post says were stopped or discontinued. This guide follows the 2026 posts for the current programs; how the Terms' 50% Dataset Deals formula relates to the 50% Commission Based rate is not explained.
- Wirestock does not say where the test task is delivered (the public pool application form, or the Projects and Applications sections of the logged-in dashboard) or how quickly invitations follow approval.
- No list of supported or excluded countries is published. Payouts depend on PayPal or Payoneer working in your country.
- Search engines still index a Wirestock 'Paid Projects FAQ' (payouts in the first week of each month, reviews of up to 5 business days), but that URL now serves the privacy policy, so those details are not used here.

No. Wirestock is a real company.
Does Wirestock pay?
Yes. Real and well-funded: $23M Series A in May 2026 led by Nava Ventures (with SBVP, Formula VC, I2BF Global Ventures), 700,000+ contributors, roughly $40M annual run rate, and about 300,000 creators paid through AI dataset licensing, covered by TechCrunch, VentureBeat, PRNewswire, and SiliconANGLE. Worker sentiment is mixed: press and many creator guides are positive, but some contributor reviews (for example Xpiks) criticize low or slow earnings and review times. Payouts: Monthly for the previous month, via PayPal ($30 minimum) or Payoneer ($50 minimum) Two pay models, per Wirestock's July 2026 payments post. Is Wirestock worth it?
Wirestock pays Variable royalties (third-party reports). It suits flexible microtask income rather than a dependable hourly wage. Worker sentiment: Trustpilot 3.3/5 (391 reviews).
How does Wirestock pay out?
Monthly for the previous month, via PayPal ($30 minimum) or Payoneer ($50 minimum)
Where can you work for Wirestock?
Global (payouts via PayPal or Payoneer)
How do I start earning on Wirestock?
Create a creator account and fill in your profile with your skills, content specialties, equipment and experience, which Wirestock uses to match you to projects. Then either apply to join a creator pool and complete an unpaid test task to get Fixed Payment projects (paid for each approved submission), or submit content to Commission Based projects, which earn 50% each time an asset is licensed. You can do both at the same time.
Is the Wirestock test task paid?
No. The test task is unpaid and part of the application process. Wirestock uses it to check your style, technical accuracy and how you work with a brief before adding you to a creator pool.
What does the Wirestock creator pool application ask for?
The short form on a pool's Apply page ('Join our latest project') asks for your name, email (required), country, a portfolio link and a 'More about you' note. Wirestock's team reviews the application and reaches out to you.
How long does Wirestock take to review a test task?
Usually up to 2 days, sometimes longer when many submissions come in. Passing adds you to a creator pool, but Wirestock only contacts you when a matching project becomes available, so it is not a guarantee of immediate work.
How and when does Wirestock pay?
Monthly and automatically, for the previous month's earnings, through PayPal or Payoneer (the only two methods). The FAQ lists a $30 minimum; the Terms set $30 for PayPal and $50 for Payoneer, and smaller balances roll over to the next month.
Does Wirestock still sell my photos on Shutterstock, Adobe Stock or Getty?
No. In early 2026 Wirestock stopped distributing content to third-party stock marketplaces. Previously approved content moved automatically into Paid per sale (Commission Based) projects, organized by content type, where buyers license it repeatedly. Content that was never approved was removed.
Will my Wirestock uploads be used to train AI?
They can be. Under the Terms effective 20 January 2026, every item you submit automatically joins the Dataset Deals Program, where Wirestock licenses sets of content to third parties it selects, and the Terms state there is no option to opt out. If you do not want a file in that program, the Terms say not to submit it.
Can I take my content out of Commission Based projects?
Yes. Wirestock says you can remove your content from Commission Based projects by contacting Wirestock support at support@wirestock.io.
