Applying to Terac, step by step

Researched October 2026

Sign in at terac.com (LinkedIn is recommended; Google, Microsoft, GitHub and Facebook also work), verify your phone, fill in your profile and preferred hourly rate, optionally take a 10-minute onboarding interview, then apply to opportunities, each with its own screening (a form, a short AI voice interview or a file upload); verify your ID before your first cash-out, which starts at $12.50.

Who can join

  • Be at least 18. Terac's Terms of Service say persons under 18 are not permitted to use or register for the services, and that experts work as independent contractors, not employees.
  • Real professional expertise. Terac says minimum qualifications typically require undergraduate-level expertise, and each opportunity lists who should apply.
  • A phone number you can verify. It is the one required onboarding step: Terac says it confirms you are human, limits duplicate accounts and is required to apply.
  • One account per person. Terac says multiple accounts may result in suspension of all of them, and a duplicate created by mistake can only be fixed by support.
  • A government-issued photo ID before your first cash-out. The check is run by the payout partner Whop; your name, date of birth and address must match the ID exactly, and US experts give their SSN.
  • A country where cash-outs work. Terac says they are available in most countries (it does not list them) and asks you to contact support if yours is not.
  • For voice interviews, a microphone and a browser that allows it: Terac says Chrome or Edge work best, and Safari and Firefox lack some checks.

Step by step

  1. 1

Sign in with an account you already have

There is no password to create. Continue with LinkedIn is the option Terac recommends, because it pre-fills your background; Facebook, Google, Microsoft and GitHub also work. Always use the same provider: one with a different email address creates a new account instead of opening yours.

  2. 2

    Verify your phone number

This is the one required onboarding step. Once your phone is verified, you can apply to opportunities from your dashboard at terac.com/me.

  3. 3

Build your profile and set your rate

Connect LinkedIn or upload a resume so Terac can fill in your experience, education and certifications, check what it filled in, and set your preferred hourly rate (you can change it later). Terac says completed profiles are much more likely to be approved for opportunities.

  4. 4

    Take the onboarding interview (optional)

A voice conversation of about 10 minutes, in English, that helps Terac match you with opportunities. You can skip it and take it later from Home.

  5. 5

    Verify your identity early

Under Profile, then Identity and Security, complete the ID check before you start work: you cannot cash out anything you earn without it, and the application checklist marks it Required.

  6. 6

    Find opportunities

Invitations appear on Home under 'You've been invited to'; everything else is on Explore, with All, Project-based and One-time tabs. Read each listing's 'Who Should Apply' section to see whether you qualify.

  7. 7

    Apply and pass the screening

Click Start Application. Steps vary by opportunity and can include connecting accounts or a calendar, basic info, screening, tasks and payout. If your basic-info answers do not match what the opportunity needs, you are told straight away; screening can be a short form, a quick AI voice interview or a file upload.

  8. 8

    Wait for the decision

Your work is reviewed after screening, after tasks, or both, sometimes automatically and sometimes by the Terac or research team. Terac emails you when there is a decision; 'Not a fit for this one' means you did not match that opportunity, and you can still apply to others.

  9. 9

Do the work and get paid

Approved one-time work goes into your Terac balance. Project work usually starts with setup tasks such as signing a contract; on hourly projects only tracked hours are paid, they are reviewed first, and each project sets its own payout schedule.

Per-opportunity screening (often a short AI voice interview), plus an optional onboarding interview

There is no single entrance exam. Each opportunity runs its own screening: a short form, a quick AI voice interview of about 3 minutes, or a file upload, and your work may be reviewed again after its tasks. Separately, an optional onboarding interview of about 10 minutes helps Terac match you with opportunities. If you are screened out the screen says so, and if submitted work does not pass review it shows no reason.

Format

AI voice interview (about 3 minutes for screening, about 10 for onboarding), short forms, file uploads, then the opportunity's own tasks. Interviews run in the opportunity's language; onboarding is in English. A screening interview that dropped or that you ended early can be restarted from the beginning, but a completed interview cannot be retaken.

How to prepare

  • Read the 'Who Should Apply' section and answer basic-info questions truthfully: answers that do not match are screened out at once, and Terac's terms let it forfeit an unpaid balance for falsified answers.
  • Treat the AI voice interview as final. A completed interview cannot be retaken, so answer about your real, specific work in your field.
  • Set up your microphone first: use Chrome or Edge, allow microphone and camera access, and try headphones if the audio is poor (there is no microphone picker inside the interview).
  • Finish your profile before you apply: Terac says completed profiles are much more likely to be approved.
  • Apply soon after an opportunity opens: groups fill, and listings can switch to 'Spot just filled' or 'Reserved for other profiles' while you are applying.

Why people get rejected

  • Not matching what the study needs, which Terac lists as the main reason for being screened out.
  • The group you fall into is already full, even if you qualify.
  • Submitted work that does not pass review (the screen shows no reason).
  • An ID that does not match your account details, or one already used on another Terac account, which puts cash-outs on hold.
How long it takes

Terac publishes no fixed timeline: its FAQ says how long it takes to hear back depends on the opportunity and on who reviews it, and to contact support if you have waited more than 7 days. One-time work is credited to your balance shortly after approval, projects pay on their own schedule, and a bank transfer then takes 1 to 3 business days.

When you get paid

Approved work, referral commissions and bonuses land in your Terac balance in US dollars. You move money to your payout balance at Whop (free, usually instant, and it cannot be moved back), then withdraw to your bank. The minimum is $12.50, the daily maximum $10,000, and Whop may charge a fee by method, shown before you confirm; a standard bank transfer takes 1 to 3 business days. Pay for one-time work can be reversed, shown as a Clawback, if the submission is later rejected in review.

Tips to get accepted

  • Verify your ID before you need the money. The first cash-out requires a one-time Whop identity check, and your name, date of birth and address must match your ID exactly; if you verified with Terac's previous payout provider, you must verify again.
  • Always sign in with the same provider. Signing in with one that uses a different email address creates a new account instead of opening yours.
  • Check Home for invitations and Explore for new listings often. Terac's own FAQ answer to 'I don't see opportunities' is to check back often.
  • Connect Google Calendar under Profile, then Availability, so Terac can see when you are free, and keep your profile complete.
  • Expect to be screened out of most studies at first. One 2026 review of an account found most applications screened out and $20 earned across 6 studies, while listed studies paid $100 to $350: a listed price is not income until you pass screening.
  • Only verify your ID from your Terac settings or Earnings page. Terac never asks for a password, a verification code, a bank login, a fee or a deposit, and a genuine study link always points to terac.com.

What isn't public

  • Terac publishes no acceptance rate and does not say how screening interviews or submitted work are scored; when work is not approved, the screen shows no reason.
  • It does not list the countries where cash-outs work (only 'most countries'), and it does not publish Whop's withdrawal fees in figures, only that a standard bank transfer has a small flat fee and instant transfers cost more.
  • Each project sets its own payout schedule, which you see on the project's Payout tab once you are in; it is not published before you join.
  • Terac does not publish how much work a typical expert gets. Its homepage lists field rates such as $40 an hour for software engineering, and its board listed 47 openings on 15 October 2026, but how often an approved expert is selected is not disclosed.
  • Terac's docs say payouts moved from Virtual Incentives to Whop but do not date the change; a third-party review saw a Virtual Incentives cash-out in July 2026 and an M-Pesa payout in September 2026.
  • We could not read Glassdoor, Indeed or Reddit discussions of Terac directly, so worker sentiment here rests on Trustpilot and one third-party review.
